CLEVELAND — As Myles Garrett awaits his fate, one of his teammates has already learned his. On Wednesday, the NFL announced that it has upheld Larry Ogunjobi’s one-game suspension, which stemmed from his role in the fight between the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers last Thursday night.
A third-year defensive tackle, Ogunjobi had appealed his suspension to NFL officer James Thrash on Monday. Thrash was also the officer who heard Garrett’s appeal in-person on Wednesday.
Although Ogunjobi didn’t play as central of a role in the skirmish as Garrett, he was ejected from the contest after shoving Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph to the ground. Moments earlier, Rudolph had been entangled with Garrett, who proceeded to rip the signal-caller’s helmet off before hitting him in the head with it.
After Pittsburgh center Maurkice Pouncey tackled Garrett to the ground and kicked at him, Ogunjobi rushed in and shoved Rudolph to the ground from behind. Garrett, Ogunjobi and Pouncey were each ejected from the game, with Pouncey having also received a three-game suspension and both teams being fined $250,000.
As a result of his suspension, Ogunjobi will miss the Browns’ contest with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Although his suspension was upheld, the NFL did rescind his $10,527 fine.
In 10 games this season, Ogunjobi has tallied 28 tackles, 7 of which have come for a loss and 5 sacks.
