CLEVELAND — Cleveland State men’s basketball head coach Dennis Gates has big-time goals for his program and apparently he’s ready to put that to the test against a perennial powerhouse.
Sources confirmed to WKYC on Sunday that Cleveland State will play Duke on Dec. 18 at Cameron Indoor Stadium for a regular season non-conference match up. The two schools have never met on the hardwood.
CSU has not announced the rest of their 2020-2021 regular season schedule.
Duke has won five national titles and appeared in the Final Four 16 different times. Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski will be entering his 40th season with the Blue Devils.
Meanwhile, Gates is entering his second season on the job at Cleveland State. Gates, a former Florida State assistant, won Co-Head Coach of the Year in the Horizon League last season and is making noise during this spring with his recruiting.
Rivals, a recruiting service, ranks Cleveland State with the top class in the Horizon League going into next season and has the Vikings tied with Dayton with the No. 80 overall class.
No game time has been announced yet for the Duke – CSU match up on Dec. 18.
