CLEVELAND — Myles Garrett stands alone in Cleveland Browns history when it comes to sacking the quarterback.
In the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, the Browns’ All-Pro defensive end strip-sacked quarterback Bailey Zappe to force a fumble. The sack gives Garrett 62.5 for his career, moving him ahead of Clay Matthews on the team’s career list. It took just 73 games for Garrett to break the record. Matthews accomplished his sack total in 232 career games, although the sack did not become an official statistic until Matthews’ fifth season in the NFL.
The No. 1 pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, Garrett has established himself as one of the top defensive players in all of football, earning first-team All-Pro honors in each of the past two seasons, as well as three career Pro Bowl selections.
