WKYC: The most notable ‘snow games’ in NFL history

Heavy lake-effect snow proved to be an advantage in Thursday’s Browns victory over the Steelers.

CLEVELAND — Lake Erie was on full display with a blast of lake-effect snow during the Thursday night matchup between the Browns and Steelers. The extreme snow conditions dumped between 1 and 3 inches of the white stuff.

The snow was intense through the second half, but nowhere near the top for the NFL’s snowiest games. Here’s a list of some of the most notable such contests in league history.

Lions vs. Eagles – Dec. 8, 2013

  • Game time snow accumulation: 8 inches
  • Final: 34-20 Eagles

Colts vs. Bills – Dec. 10, 2017

  • Game time snow accumulation: 8-9 inches
  • Final: 13-7 Bills in OT

Titans vs. Patriots – Oct. 18, 2009

  • Game time snow accumulation: Approximately 4 inches
  • Final: 59-0 Patriots

‘Tuck Rule Game’: Raiders vs. Patriots – 2001 AFC Divisional Playoff

  • Game time snow accumulation: 4 inches
  • Final: 16-13 Patriots

Buccaneers vs. Packers – Dec. 1, 1985

  • Game time snow accumulation: 14-plus inches
  • Final: 21-0 Packers

‘Snowplow Game’: Dolphins vs. Patriots – Dec. 12, 1982

  • Game time snow accumulation: 8 inches
  • Final: 3-0 Patriots

Bills vs. Browns – Dec. 16, 2007

  • Game time snow accumulation: 2 inches
