According to ESPN NFL Senior Insider Adam Schefter, Deshaun Watson’s status for the 2025 season is in jeopardy.
CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson underwent surgery on Thursday after reportedly tearing his Achilles again.
ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter posted the news Friday morning on X, noting that Watson’s status for the 2025 season is now in jeopardy, per a league source.
Schefter also noted that Watson met with Dr. Robert Anderson on Thursday before undergoing the surgery.
The news comes just days after Browns GM Andrew Berry opened his season wrapup news conference with an unexpected update on Watson, who made just seven starts this season as the Browns (3-14) stumbled after making the playoffs a year ago.
During the presser, Bery said that Watson suffered a setback in his recovery from his initial Achilles tendon rupture that happened on Oct. 20.
In addition, Berry also noted that the team only learned about Watson’s new medical situation during player exit meetings on Sunday, when the 29-year-old brought it up to team doctors.
Watson had his initial Achilles injury repaired on Oct. 25. He has been splitting time in Ohio and Florida during his recovery. Watson has not spoken to the media since getting hurt.
Watson has only played in 19 games since signing a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract with Cleveland in 2022. The deal has been a collective failure, as Watson hasn’t played well when he’s been healthy.
