Officials told 3News that the transporter delivered the vehicle to a receiver in Detroit, but authorities now believe the receiver was fraudulent.

HUNTING VALLEY, Ohio — A vehicle belonging to Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston is missing after what Hunting Valley police believe was a fraudulent transport handoff.

According to police, Winston’s black Cadillac Escalade was picked up from a home he was renting in Hunting Valley for transport.

3News’ media partner Cleveland.com reported that Interstate Auto — a Northeast Ohio towing company — handled the pickup, with plans for the SUV to be transported to California. The driver was instructed to drop it off at a Detroit address, where the transport was supposed to continue.

Officials told 3News that the transporter delivered the vehicle to a receiver in Detroit, but authorities now believe the receiver was fraudulent.

On Jan. 25, Hunting Valley police took the initial report and entered Winston’s SUV into the Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as a stolen vehicle to expedite the investigation.

As of Jan. 28, the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to locate the missing vehicle.
